8. Don’t pay for treatment yourself

As specified in the loan contract, treatment costs will be paid directly to the clinic, by means of a loan, without your involvement.

After the treatment

Send us the rest of the documents confirming your residency

Some of the documents confirming your residency must be dated after the date of the treatment. Because of that, you will have to send us some of the documents once you return home after the treatment.

Wait for the reimbursement

After the end of the treatment and upon receiving all necessary documentation, Med4EU will apply for a refund of treatment costs to the NHS. Recovered costs will be up to the initial treatment valuation by the NHS.

Pay the difference

Reimbursed money will be used to repay your medical loan. If the cost of treatment goes beyond the reimbursement rate, the difference is paid the patient. We will inform you about the expected levels of reimbursement prior to the start of the treatment.

Costs incurred by the patient

After registering in our system, but before the start of Med4EU’s services, we will charge an administrative fee which covers all services related to administrative management of the treatment and reimbursement processes. The fee depends on the type of treatment that you will receive with Med4EU’s help.

After the admin fee is paid, we will proceed with coordinating necessary documentation, writing the reimbursement application to the NHS and handling all conversations with the NHS in the name of the patient. After the NHS confirms the value of reimbursement, Med4EU charges a success fee. From the success fee we subtract the amount of the admin fee. More information can be found in the Fee Table.

In the case of taking a medical loan, both the interests and the fee for Med4EU guaranteeing the loan depend on patient’s individual situation. If you have any questions regarding the fees related to the medical loan, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

How can I assess how much will the NHS reimburse me?

Under the EU cross-border healthcare directive, the NHS is obliged to reimburse the costs of treatment abroad only up to the amount of NHS treatment valuation.

This means that if the NHS valuates the treatment at  £1000 and the patient pays £1200, then the NHS refunds only £1,000 to the patient, and the patient has to pay the difference on their own. In cases where the cost of treatment in Poland is lower than the NHS, the NHS provides a full refund.

In the event of uncertainty in the area of treatment valuation, prior to planned treatment, Med4EU will submit an application to the NHS asking for a quote. The necessity of this process is determined with each patient individually.
