How Will Brexit Affect Going Abroad For Medical Treatment?

The UK is planning to leave the EU on 31st January 2020 and a lot of you are wondering how will that affect patients’ ability to seek treatment abroad with NHS cost reimbursement.

This is the information we are receiving from the NHS:

The UK is planning to leave the EU on 31st January 2020. The agreement we have reached with EU is that until 31 December 2020 there will be no changes to both the S2 planned treatment and EU Directive funding schemes. However, we recommend that you regularly check the updated information on: https://www.nhs.uk/…/go…/going-abroad-for-medical-treatment/ . If you are planning to have treatment beyond 31 December 2020, we are unable to guarantee that funding will be available or that your application will be approved.

What will the situation look like after 31st December 2020? Unfortunately, we are not able to answer this question, it all depends on the agreements the UK will reach with the EU.

We will aim to post regular updated on our website and our Facebook profile if we receive any new information from the NHS.
